Many times when I travel, I now try to get a photo outing done, both as a way to relax and a way to explore. I admire artists who do street photography, and how one captures the natural flow of life in a town or city. I am not quite sure the way I capture a city would count as street photography or another classification, because I often explore places when no one else is there. So, perhaps what I do is more generally classified as travel photography – my way of capturing a place. The reason I often capture a place when no one is there is because of my natural tendency for mornings and sunrise, but also because outside of the hustle and bustle I am able to truly take my time.
So far, I have a few images of Seattle, DC, and Kansas City streets and quite a few of Cleveland. I have found myself gravitating to the street level, smaller details versus the larger skylines. I think I like the intimacy of that more, and the control I can get in crafting the image. Finding small things that still reflect this big place. One street that maybe captures the whole city’s mood.

Or unique statues that mark the city’s personality.

As I continue to travel and my exploration of photography grows, I look forward to my take on travel photography refining.
