On Writing “Chasing Sunrise”

‘Chasing Sunrise’ came quite naturally for me. I get up early and I get out early. With that said, I am often catching a sunrise. The first one I tried to catch on camera was in Myrtle Beach. With a new Fujifilm camera in hand and such a beautiful backdrop, I had to try. So, while on vacation with some friends, I snuck out on a peaceful morning to try to bottle up that first dose of sunshine.

Later, I would find myself not just catching but chasing sunrise, knowing the beauty that comes first thing in the morning. I may capture more, but was proud of what I had been able to do up to this point. So, decided to make it a project. But, ‘Chasing Sunrise’ the project, stood to hold a bit more than just a subset of pretty pictures. It was my first opportunity to put my photographs into a collection, and it spoke to more than just a specific time of day. I need new beginnings. Some part of my love for sunrise is wrapped up in the hope that a new morning can give me. Adding poetry to this collection helped to fully hold all that sunrise means to me.

Now that the collection is put together, maybe just one other person can connect to that feeling. I am still chasing sunrise in my life, but am glad to take a small snapshot of what that looks like and feels like with both my photography and poetry in this collection.
