If I had to select one of my favorite pieces from Dearest Lover, I feel it would be “A New Home”. I still remember the spark that came alive in me when the first line came into my mind – “I’ve been looking for a place to set my heart down” - and then the joy when the second line so wonderfully came to join it – “Perhaps that can be in the home of you”. I still feel that joy and satisfaction of piecing this moment together through words whenever I read the poem.
A New Home
I’ve been looking for a place to set my heart down
Perhaps that can be in the home of you?
I’ve been wandering out here for some time now
Looking for a place that’s safe and true
I know your heart lives here as well
But perhaps you can make room for two?
It’s just, it seems like I’ve been walking through hell
And you’ve been the only heaven shining through
I’m done being lost, and ready to be found
And think I may have arrived finally
I will honor, secure, and defend this sacred ground
Knowing the home of you, is now the home of me
I come to you, a humble wanderer
Holding out my hands, with my heart between
Asking that you would care for her
Making reality of my most precious dream.
